A lovely way for children to learn the lesson of working diligently when work needs to be done. Grace does not procrastinate. Spring is here and the weeds need pulling in the garden before she plants the seeds. Her two friends, Chips and Lolly, come over to ask her to play and watch a movie but she declines their offer, a little surprised that they also do not have work to do too but they just tell her that there is plenty of time for that later.

Later that summer as Grace is out watering her now growing plants, her friends come by to ask her to go swimming. When she tells them that she cannot go, they just laugh and once again tell her that there's plenty of time for that later.

Fall arrives and Grace is so pleased to see that her hard work has been rewarded. The fruit and vegetables are wonderful and there is not a weed in sight. Now she has time to go play so goes to find her friends. Surprise! Surprise! They cannot play as their gardens are not even started. Grace goes to play with the other rabbits who had worked hard all summer.

As snow starts falling, Grace is enjoying making pumpkin pie etc. Looking out her window she sees Chips and Lolly wandering around looking for food. Will Grace invite them to share her harvest? Will the friends learn a valuable lesson? You'll have to read the book to find out how it ends.

A well-written, beautifully illustrated story. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from our house to yours!

Grace Garden edition by Michael Melchers Anne Zimanski Jill Melchers Children eBooks Reviews

Very simple, attractive, and well done illustrations set off this very well written tale of friendship, planning ahead, and kindness.
It has a Good message about sharing and working and playing.... keeping it all in balance. Great read for 4-7 year olds. Pretty pictures too.
Very cute with great artwork. Good story for preschool age to early school age. I was lucky to get it free!
My nephew is going to love this book, his favorite books always have animals. I can't wait to read it to him, I recommend this book to every child who loves reading and animals.
I feel the large words in this book are too advanced for the age of child this would be read to. Though the story has a good lesson, it is not well hidden. My daughter likes the pictures!
This book is a lesson learned for anyone. If you do not work hard for what you need you may not get it. I loved the illustrations and the storyline. This is a must-read for kids.
Very sweet story about a rabbit who works hard in her garden instead of playing. It ends with her having plenty of food to eat all winter, plus enough to share with her friends who played all summer. My 3 year old is in love with this story and I read it at least once a day. The illustrations are good and very colorful. The message is also good of course. I don't remember any major typos which is always a big relief. Not a long read either. Very enjoyable.
